Samuel Frederick Bauer, a beloved member of the Union City community, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on September 20, 1950, in Union City, he was the son of Frederick and Mary Marine Bauer.
Sam graduated from Union City High School in 1968 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Penn State University. For over 35 years, he dedicated himself to his work as an assistant manager at Erie Crawford Co-op, where he made many lasting friendships.
Beyond his professional life, Sam was a passionate hobbyist. He was an incredible master model boat builder, a proud train collector, and a lover of antique tractors, owning an impressive seventeen with his brother, David. Sam enjoyed nothing more than cruising the back roads on his car or motorcycle, cutting firewood, tending to his flower garden, and spending quality time with his cherished dog, “Happy.”
He is survived by his brother, David Bauer, of Union City, and his cousin, Anita Bauer Hook, who resides in Longview, Washington. Sam was preceded in death by his parents.

Sam was a life long friend. We spent much time together in grade school at the feed mill or riding bikes around town. As older adults, we sent each other pictures of the projects we were building: Sam with his beautiful boats, me with my reptile sculptures.
Sam will be missed. His was an easy friendship to sustain.
Sam was a good friend. I will miss Sam’s connection to our early years together. We share many memories growing up together as kids, teenagers, and young adults. I will treasure forever our last several phone calls during Sam’s final months. I wish David condolences and relief during this sorrowful time.
So sorry to hear of your brother’s passing Dave.. he certainly was a pillar in his community… may he rest in peace..
Another friend from my youth gone too soon:-( RIP Sam
Good old Sam, we became friends from his years at the mill , we did a lot of joking around …i wish I could tell some of best/funniest made up scenarios of what we told each other ….Sam would always tell me he would be out for trick or treat and have some rediculous costume he would be wearing and that I better have full size candy bars…. I have 3 bird houses that he made and dropped off on my porch plus a couple case of Jack Daniels Lynchburg lemonade …this past Christmas he gave me a lighted tree for in my window and a picture of the old Clough Farm in Springcreek ….I’m gonna miss messaging back and forth to see who could come up with the tallest tale …my condolence to Dave and all that knew my buddy Sam , rest in peace my friend
Rest in peace! 🙏
