William Lawrence Baker Jr., 80, of 534 Atlantic Ave., Franklin, a veteran of the Korean War, died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 28, 1929, in Franklin, he was the son of William L. Baker, Sr. and Gertie Freeman Baker. He was married June 1, 1953, to the former Barbara A. Bodien, who survives. Mr. Baker served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a lineman. He was employed as an erector at CPT for 32 years until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, working on cars, hunting, fishing and playing horseshoes. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, William L. Baker III of Seneca; Allan E. Baker and his wife, Emily, of Franklin, Brian L. Baker and his wife, Janice, of Franklin and Christopher N. Baker and his wife Diana, of Franklin. He also is survived by seven grandchildren, Mandy Baker, William L. Baker IV, Jared Baker, Sylvia Baker and Julie Hill, all of Franklin, and Brittany Baker and Bradley Baker, both of Oil City; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Baker of Cooperstown and Frederick Baker and his wife, Carol of Franklin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Coxson; and two sisters, Ruth Baker and Carol Ann Baker. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Lamey Cemetery with the Rev. Susan Evans, the VNA Hospice pastor, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to help defray funeral costs.
