William A. (Bill) Schoonover Sr.
William A. (Bill) Schoonover Sr., 68, of 16955 Mullen Road, Meadville, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
He was born in Oil City on March 23, 1940, a son to the late Edwin G. and Mildred Simpson Schoonover. He married Sue Browning Schoonover in 1961, and recently celebrated 47 years of marriage.
He attended Oil City High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from 1956 to 1959.
He retired in 2003 from Meadville Forging Company after 41 years of service.
He was an avid model railroader with an extensive collection of Lionel Trains in his "Train Room." He loved antique car cruises and car shows and owned two antique cars. He loved country music, especially George Jones. He also played the guitar. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Schoonover of Meadville; a son, William A. Schoonover Jr. and his wife, Allison, of Meadville; a daughter, Julie A. McAlpine and her husband, Bill, of Glenmoore; a son, Eric G. Schoonover and his wife, Melody, of Meadville; six grandchildren, Abbey Schoonover and Zach Schoonover, both of Meadville, Amanda McAlpine and Caitlyn McAlpine, both of Glenmoore, and Tressa Schoonover and Dylan Schoonover, both of Meadville; two sisters, Peg Reagle of Meadville and Shirley Hewston of San Antonio, Texas; and two brothers, Edwin Schoonover and his wife, Shirley, of Oil City, and Jerry Schoonover and his wife, Brenda, of Meadville. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Aaron and Jean DeLucia.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home, 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato and Father Raymond Gramata officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Township.
The family requests memorials be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. Eighth St., Erie, Pa. 16505.
