Wesley "Wes" P. Boughner

Wesley P. “Wes” Boughner, 84, of Cooperstown, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Born in Franklin on April 26, 1942, he was the son of the late Emery and Edna Couch Boughner.

Wes graduated from Rocky Grove High School in 1960. On September 13, 1963, he married the love of his life, Janet, with whom he shared more than 62 years of marriage.

A hardworking and dedicated businessman, Wes was the owner and operator of Boughner Grader Service for over 50 years. He took great pride in his work and was known for building and maintaining roads throughout the area. Even in his free time, he enjoyed driving the back roads he had graded over the years, reflecting on a lifetime of work well done.

Wes had a wonderful sense of humor and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. He enjoyed keeping his yard meticulously mowed, never passed up a good dessert, and loved hosting weekend breakfasts at his shop. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, and after retiring, he spent many enjoyable days golfing at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course where he also played in the Senior Golf League.

A devoted member of his community, Wes was a lifetime member of the Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Assistant Chief and Treasurer. He was also a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66 for 63 years and a 32nd Degree Mason with Lake Myrtle Lodge.

Wes is survived by his wife, Janet Boughner; his daughters, Shelley King and Marci Confer (Ty); and his grandchildren, Trevor Confer (Lacy) and Tessa King. He is also survived by his sisters-in-laws, Ruth-Anne Boughner, Cynthia Boughner, Cindy Armburger, and Deb Armburger; a cousin who was like a brother, Clyde Couch; his dog, Scout; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Wes was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Boughner Potter (Howard); his brothers, Rev. Robert E. Boughner (Eilene), Eugene C. Boughner (Doleris), Gerald “Jerry” Boughner, Richard “Dick” Boughner (Betty), Byron Boughner, and infant brother Edwin W. Boughner and his brothers-in-law, Clifford Armburger (Marge) Richard “Rick” Armburger, and Larry Armburger.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 27th from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., with the funeral service to follow at 6:00pm with Rev. Jerry Ritchey, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Wes’s memory to the Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Department, 152 N. Main Street, Cooperstown, PA 16317.
