Virginia M. Proper, 87, of 33222 N. Main St., Townville, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at her residence.She was born on Jan. 9, 1922, at Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late James and Emma Morse Haines. She married Warren W. Proper on Feb. 5, 1938. He preceded her in death on June 15, 1997.She had been employed as a nurse's aide in the pediatric department for 25 years at the former Spencer Hospital in Meadville.She was a member of Townville United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday school in the Nursery for 25 years.She was a table teacher at Release Time at Townville United Methodist Church. She was a member of Townville Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Service Auxiliary, she was a 55-year member of the Rebekah Lodge No. 322, a member of the Pierian Club, and Townville Ambulance where she was one of the first emergency medical technicians. She had been the president of the Townville Parent Teacher Association from 1962 to 1965 and she had been active in the Townville Old Home Days.Surviving are four sons, Warren Proper and his wife, Patti, of Guys Mills, John Proper and his wife, Judith, of Chester, Va., Arthur Proper and his wife, Carol Ann, of Pascagoula, Miss., and Frank Proper and his companion, Alene Kinnear, of Townville; a daughter, Virginia Filipowski of Townville; a daughter-in-law, Lois Proper of Townville; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eleanor Hopkins and her husband, Carl, of Titusville; Martha Hopkins and her husband, Bob, of Meadville, and Nora Furno and her husband, Alfred, of Meadville; a brother, Ralph Haines and his wife, Mary Lou, of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Proper, a granddaughter, Lisa J. Proper; three brothers, Albert Haines, James Haines and Bill Haines; and three sisters, Ada Jones, Claire Vanderhoof and Jeannette Prather.A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Townville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Frank Weingard officiating.Burial will be in Chapmanville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Townville United Methodist Church, 33279 N Main St., Townville, Pa. 16360.Arrangements are under the direction of Willis L.
