Thomas W. Barnes Jr. Thomas W. Barnes, Jr., 64, of Sandstone Drive, Franklin, met his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, June 5, 2012. Born August 1, 1947 in Franklin, Thomas was the son of the late Thomas "Tucker" W. and Virginia Frill Barnes, Sr. He was married to Rebecca Lindsey on July 18, 1970, and she survives. After graduating from Rocky Grove High School in 1965, Mr. Barnes was awarded the Joy Scholarship, and eventually earned his way up to Vice President of Manufacturing and Engineering at Joy Manufacturing. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Clarion State College and his M.B.A. from Gannon University. He was very proud of his educational accomplishments while employed at Joy. In 1997, Tom left Joy Manufacturing after working there for 27 years. He continued to manage several companies across the country serving markets related to aerospace, windows, machinery, and agriculture, enabling him to travel overseas many times with his work. Mr. Barnes finally retired in 2009 after a rewarding career. After returning to Franklin, Tom was a member of the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren in Christ Church. He had formerly been a member of the First Baptist Church in Franklin, where he served on the Board of Trustees and was a church Deacon. When he lived in Milwaukee and Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Thomas was very active in the community and churches. Locally, he was a member of the Franklin Elks B.P.O.E. #110, a Valley Grove School Board Member from 1993 to 1997, a guest teacher for several local school districts from 2009 to 2011, and a member of the Cooperstown Athletic Association, where he served as a board member, coach and umpire. He was every child's biggest fan! Mr. Barnes was also an avid sportsman, enjoying baseball, basketball and hunting. His favorite pastime was vacationing with his family in the Outer Banks. In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by his two sons, Dr. Thomas W. Barnes, III, Esquire, and his wife, Jennifer, of Hamilton, Ohio, and Brinton Barnes of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; his daughter, Julia Bordell and her husband, Michael, of Franklin; and his five grandchildren, Lindsey, Landon and Abigail Barnes of Hamilton, Ohio, and Riley and McKenna Bordell of Franklin. He is also survived by his brother Dale Barnes; his sister, Cheran Cherok and her husband, Thomas, all of Beaver, PA; and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Thursday, June 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 8 at the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren in Christ Church, with Rev. Gary Small, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.
