Thomas Samuel Byler
September 10, 1954 ~ January 22, 2023
Born in: Union City, Pennsylvania
Thomas S. Byler, 68, of Spartansburg passed peacefully at home on Sunday, January 22, 2023 surrounded by family and friends.
Tom, known by close friends as “T”, was born to Milford “Buddy” and Lorene (Yoder) Byler on September 10, 1954. He grew up on the family dairy farm with his three older brothers. He was an avid reader from a young age and a natural athlete playing baseball in high school and gymnastics in college. He graduated from Spartansburg Elementary/High School in 1972 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Chico State University in California. He moved home after meeting the love of his life, Valerie, and joined his brothers Dave and Ron in partnership on the growing family farm.
Tom enjoyed sharing his passions with his family, teaching his children about the natural world, including hunting, fishing, trapping, camping and gardening as well as carpentry and mechanics. He was a man of many talents and strengths. Tom also enjoyed the Pacific Northwest, often visiting his oldest brother Jim, where they would elk hunt and fish together.
He was a man of great integrity, had a gentle spirit, easy-going nature, and never-ending well of quiet strength and was known as a hard worker, humble, quick to lend a hand and his subtle humor. He was a devoted husband and father, leaving a powerful legacy of love and respect.
Tom is survived by his wife Valerie L. (Swanson), twin children: daughter Adrian (Marc Moles) and son Warren (Emily) and their children Logan, Grayson and Charlotte. He is also survived by his three older brothers James (JoAnn) of Idaho, David (Ruth) and Ronald (Cheryl) and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, January 27th at Warren-Glenn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 62 S. Main Street, Union City. Memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Spartansburg Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Service (330 Main St. Spartansburg, PA 16434). A special thank you to the wonderful caregivers and “angels” sent to us from UPMC Hamot Hospital and Crawford County Hospice.

So very sorry to hear about Tom’s passing.
Thinking of all of the good times in Sparta School and the Sparta area. Tom was such a kind and intelligent person who was blessed with an awesome family. We are thinking of all of you across the miles.
Dear Adrian and Warren–I am so sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. Please accept my condolences. Dan Clark
I was extremely disappointed not to be able to pay my respects to Tom Friday. I first knew Tom as one of the 3 Byler Brothers Dairy, but my fondest memories of Tom are at WalMart after he left the farm. My wife was laid up with a broken fibula & I was shopping for her. I recognized Tom’s friendly face & asked the location for something. He stopped what he was doing & led me to what I was looking for & advised for the selection. On repeat visits, he would spot me & ask if he could help. Just a really good, nice guy. He will be missed by many. Ray Wiggers
Truly a man I looked up to. Intelligent, humble, funny, and genuinely kind. I’ll miss you Tom. Rest in peace.
I have many fond memories spending time with you in our earlier years. Condolences to the family. 💗
