Thomas B. Prody, 74, of 690 Alden St., Meadville, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Meadville Medical Center. He was born in Titusville on March 31, 1935, a son of Laird Prody and Jean (Buchan) Prody. He married Jeanette Benedict on Feb. 17, 1968; she survives. An avid bowler in his younger years, he still bowled in a senior league and enjoyed hunting. He was employed by Superior Refuse Co. of Pittsburgh for 12 years and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Sertoma Club, Meadville Eagles 429 and the Meadville Club. For more than 30 years he was involved with the American Softball Association, was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame, and served as a softball commissioner and umpire. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Jeanette (Benedict) Prody of Meadville, include his father, Laird Prody, and his mother, Jean (Buchan) Prody; a son, Robert (wife Debra) Prody of Rome, N.Y.; a daughter, Susan (husband Tim) Wren of Eagle Rock; a son, Thomas H. (wife Julie) Prody of Fertigs; a daughter, Debbie (husband Allen) Shrout of Eagle Rock; a son, Kevin Raszman of Meadville; a son, Kirk (wife April) Raszman of Titusville; a daughter, Kelly Raszman of Meadville; a daughter, Krista Muddiman of Meadville; a sister, Betty Prody of Titusville; a sister, Barbara (husband Gary) Masiker of Titusville; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Kathryn Valone, Mary Gustafson and Margaret Sharp. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville. The funeral and committal service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Goodnough of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Township. The family suggests memorials be made to the Sertoma Club.
