Tempa Annabelle Whitman, 86, of 441 Gilfilan Street , Franklin died at 1:30 PM ,December 10, 2012 at her residence. Born August 20, 1926 in Franklin, PA, Tempa was the daughter of the late Isaac and Tempa Grace (Rice) Carson. She was married to Ralph Pete Whitman on July 13, 1981, and he preceded her in death on March 27, 1999. She enjoyed reading and working in her yard. Tempa is survived by her sons; Howard Bud Rankin and his wife, Joan, Terry Rankin and his wife, Rosemary, and William Rankin and his wife, Roxann, all of Franklin, her daughters; Shirley Rust of Jacksonville, Fl, Raylene Wilkinson and her husband, Carlton, of Richmond, VA, and Sue Owens and her husband, William, of Clairmont, FL. She is additionally survived by her nine grandchildren; Sandy Shaw and her companion, Harry Winston, of Salem, NC, Rodney Shaw and his wife, Joy, of Findlay, OH, Penny Shaeffer and her husband, Duncan, of Hooper, UT, Christina Peltier and her husband, Spenscer, of Statesville, NC, Charity Palmer of Dayton, TN, Timmy Owens of Clearmont, FL, Thea Pierce and her husband, Chris, of Franklin, Jeremy Rankin and his wife, Angela, of Franklin, and Tabitha Rankin of Franklin, her step-grandchild Trapper Hughes of Franklin, and her 12 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, four brothers; Clinton (Barney), Harold, Wilbert, and Robert Carson, and three sisters; Evelyn Carson, Arvella Ellis, and Ruth Kyne. Family and friends of Tempa will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Thursday, December 13th, 2012, from 3:00PM - 5:00PM. Funeral services will be held following visitation at 5:00 PM at Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev. Ed Gresick of the Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Franklin Public Library, 421 12th Street, Franklin, PA 16323 and/or Meals on Wheels.
