Sylvia J. Troyer, age 85, of Union City, Pennsylvania, will be remembered fondly after she passed away on December 27, 2024, at Sarah Reed Senior Living. Born in Corry, PA, on April 26, 1939, she was the daughter of John “Ted” Squire and Gladys Bennett Squire.

Sylvia’s journey began in Union City, where she graduated in 1957 from Union City High School. On August 9, 1958, she married her High School sweetheart, Norman Troyer, and together they built a vibrant and loving family. Sylvia earned her master’s degree in Education from Edinboro University and later became a Reading Specialist.

Sylvia was proud of Union City, especially the School System and the supportive community where she, her children, and grandchildren grew and thrived. Her family was her greatest achievement and she found so much joy in attending her children & grandchildren’s sporting & music events. Sylvia enjoyed travel and time spent with family and friends on beach vacations. She was so blessed to have a group of close friends who shared their support over monthly lunches. Many of her lady friends will be greeting her in heaven, while Louse, Rosemary, Noreen and Judy carry on the tradition. Sylvia was a true “Lady”, enjoying animal print attire, glitz, glam, coffee and chocolate in any form. She took great pride in making those around her feel loved and valued. Those who knew her felt her special connections and appreciated her generosity and kind soul.

Sylvia had a lifelong love of learning and loved reading. She dedicated herself to teaching at Union City Schools for over thirty years, inspiring countless students until her retirement. She was deeply involved in her community, being an active member of Union City First Global Methodist Church, the Union City Hospital Auxiliary, and the Union City Country Club. She also helped establish the Union City Library Book Club, fostering a love for reading in others.

Sylvia’s family will carry on her legacy. She is survived by her husband, Norman; her son Jeffrey Troyer, who resides in the Philippines; and two daughters, Kimberlie J. Dawson and her husband Thomas, and Heather S. Hornaman and her husband Thomas, all of Union City. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother Charles Squire and his wife Marjorie of Orville, Ohio; her sister Sharon Bucklew of Plano, Texas; and her grandchildren Ashley Berger and her husband Eric of New Wilmington, Tyler Dawson and his wife Macy of Union City, Savanna Strick and her husband Ben of East Springfield, Collen Hornaman, Blake Hornaman, and Keegan Hornaman all of Union City. Sylvia’s joys were further multiplied by her great-grandchildren, Ava and Adalynn Berger, and Hailey Strick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Raymond and Dennis Squire.
