Susan Kay Smith of 732 B, Hickory St., Meadville, died unexpectedly at home on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, five days after her 56th birthday.She was a beautiful, talented, intelligent woman. A wayward girl. She had attended Cambridge Springs schools, graduating in 1971 from Meadville Area Senior High School.Following her sister, Jeanne, they became Meadville's first postal women workers. Susan then moved to Bethesda, Md., to become a nanny. She moved back to the Meadville area in 1981. In her latter years, she loved doing crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble, cards and solitaire. She enjoyed music, gourmet cooking, sewing her own fashions and winning at Jeopardy.Susan loved God the most with her Catholic faith. She had many, many prayers. She is sadly missed.She leaves her family and friends, her daughter, Emily Eden Smith of Meadville; her father and stepmother, Richard E. and Virginia Smith of Meadville; a sister, Jeanne Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Rick Smith of Cambridge Springs, and a sister, Kim Smith of Cambridge Springs; her nieces, Jessica Slayton, Erica Dies, Amy Smith and Jill Smith; her grandnieces, Karlee Dies, Ashley Slayton, Kara Slayton and Kylee Dies; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.She was preceded in death by her mother, MaryAnn Grippe Smith Smock.Many thanks to all of the caseworkers that helped Susan through her struggle to God. She is blessed. Amen. She's now at peace.A memorial service will be announced at a later date in February. Arrangements are being handled by Roofner-Collins Funeral Home, 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.
