Steve A. Monarch, 50, of 320 Pacific St., Franklin, died at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008. in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Born June 19, 1957, in Franklin, he was the son of Francis A. and Helen Lazo Monarch. Mr. Monarch was self-employed and was retired from the carpet cleaning business. He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Franklin and had a great faith in God and prayed daily. Mr. Monarch loved hunting, fishing and NASCAR. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was married Oct. 19, 1990, to Cheryl Bacher, who survives. Surviving also are his mother, Helen Monarch; three children, Jason Baker and fianc?e, Laura Shaffer, of Grove City, Francis A. Monarch II of Franklin and Cassandra Showers and husband, Michael, of Franklin; and two grandchildren, Jacob Baker of Grove City and Georgia Showers of Franklin. He also is survived by a brother, Michael A. Monarch of Franklin; the following aunts, Janie Brink of Minneapolis, Abina Muhlholland of Franklin, Leatrice Minnic of Franklin, Shirley Morrison of Niles, Ohio, and Judy Walkowski of Rocky Grove; an uncle, Walter Walkowski of Franklin; and many cousins, extended family and special friends. He was preceded in death by his father. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. A Christian wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick Church, Franklin, with the Rev. Robert Manning presiding. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Franklin. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Church, Franklin. Condolences may be sent online at www.gardinierfuneralhome.com.

  5. Steve “Chunk” Monarch was a good man, father, and most of all a great friend. I will deeply miss Steve and have great empathy for the family.

  6. I was so sad to see you in the Derrick this morning. We went to Franklin High together briefly. You were always so full of life and very funny. I am sorry I didn’t get to know you better. a few years after high school I moved to Boulder, CO and in many ways I think that move saved my life. My prayers and thoughts go to your family, especially your children. God be with you.

  7. Steve is a breath of fresh air, a breath that I will always remember and will now miss.

    I worked with Steve at Joy for a number of years. He always worked hard and was an inspiration to many.

    I will miss you, Steve, and will always remember the great smile and wonderful attitude about life.
