Stanley W. Davis, age 95, of Polk, died Sunday, December 8, 2013. Until very recently, Mr. Davis was an independent man, having lived on his own. A son of Alfred R. and Florence Doerr Davis he was born February 4, 1918 in Glendale, PA. Mr. Davis was of the Protestant faith. He had been employed to set steel and paper mill machinery by the Eichleay Corporation in Pittsburgh, PA and as a surveyor for Mashuda Corporation. Mr. Davis enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors, and telling stories about World War II. Stanley was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps in England, Italy, and North Africa. Surviving are four sons, David Davis of Seneca, Michael Davis and wife Maureen of King George, VA, Thomas Davis and wife Kimberly of Polk, Kenneth Davis and wife Shari of Cheyenne, WY; two daughters, Ruth Ann Noll of Pittsburgh, Diane Crouse and husband Virgil of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Cora Jean Shingler and husband Karl of Yorktowne, VA, Louise Hrabovsky of Tionesta; eight grandchildren; and his great-grandson, Andrew Perkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Duncan Davis, whom he married June 28, 1947 and died on February 1, 2011; his parents mentioned above; two brothers, Luke and Alfred Davis; and a sister, Gwen Doerr. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA 16323 is handling the arrangements.
