Robert L. Hotchkiss, 86, of Meadville, passed away, Sunday, March 31, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 28, 1937 a son of Lawrence B. Hotchkiss and Frances Catherine Rung Hotchkiss. He married Anne Wilkes on August 31, 1957.
He was a 1956 graduate of Meadville High School and he was employed with Westinghouse until the plant closed in 1957, a technician with Atlantic Breeders from 1959 until 1993, Starlite Diversified from 1993 to 1998, and with Ernst Conservation Seeds from 1999 to 2015. He always enjoyed all his co-workers at Ernst.Â
Robert was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Meadville. He was a past member of the Western Pennsylvania Riding and Driving Club and a supporter of the Crawford County Fair. He received an award for attending every single Crawford County fair at the 75th anniversary.
He enjoyed hunting raccoon, deer and turkey and had many hunting dogs in his lifetime. He was an avid roller-skater and was roller skating weekly with his wife until the age of 70. He was also a gifted horseman and enjoyed time showing, riding and driving horses. More than anything he loved his family. Robert would often watch all the kids on Friday nights so the ladies could go shopping.
In addition to his loving wife, Anne; he is survived by a daughter, Shauna Bogardus and her husband Wayne of Saegertown; a son, Paul Hotchkiss and his wife Melinda of Meadville; grandchildren, Ryan Crane and his companion Amanda of Erie and Alicia Cooper and her husband Garret of Waynesburg; a step-grand-daughter, Megan Martin and her husband Torin of Oil City; great grandchildren, Parker and Michael; step-great grandchildren, Kash, Koby, Lola, and Trace; two brothers, Brian Hotchkiss and his wife Sally of Meadville and Carl Hotchkiss and his wife Kay of Meadville; extended family, Carolyn Mulligan (James), Pauline Mead (Kenny), Linda Young (Scott), Darlene Keisel (Dave), and Donna Wilkes; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in laws, Arthur and Freda Wilkes; sisters-in-law, Donna Scribner and Gail Pringle; and brothers-in-law, Earl Lippert, Richard Wilkes and Art Pringle.Â
Family and friends are welcome to call on Friday, April 5th from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Ryan M. Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Walter Clark and Rev. Dr. Daniel Corll, officiating.
