Richard M. Harris, 80, of Franklin, died at 3:05 a.m. on Friday, July 29th at Sugar Creek Station, following an illness.Born February 26, 1936 in Franklin, Richard was the son of Elmore and Mary Kaigler Harris. He married the former Geraldine Crosby on August 4, 1990, and she survives.Richard was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a former member of the Erie Street Church of God, where he served on the Board of Trustees. Richard enjoyed fishing. He also was an avid tennis fan and a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He especially cherished spending time with his family.In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his daughter, Richelle Lynn Harris of Dallas-Fort Worth; his two sons, Victor Harris and Richard Harris, both of Toledo, Ohio; and his two grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Elmore "Cootie" Harris and his special friend, Jeanie, of Meadville; his sisters, Pearl Harris and Bernadine Holmes, both of Newark, New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews.Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jodie, Hezekiah, James and Robert Harris; and his sisters, Kallie Collins, Rosemary Moses, Margaret Harris, Marion Tanner, and Lucille Harris. Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Monday, August 1st from 3 to 5 p.m. Funeral Services for Mr. Harris will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, following visitation. Military honors will be accorded by the local V.E.T.S. Richard,you will always be” Deacon” to me. A long time friend even though before I visited you in the hospital in July, I had not seen you in 56 years. We shared many memories when I visited you and talked of moments together at 14th St. School and in Jr High. Thanks for the memories.

I’m so sorry for the loss of Richard. He was a good person and always enjoyed talking to him. Will always remember he loved his Christmas music . May it be of some comfort for you and his Family he’s not suffering. You will be in my prayers and thoughts today as it will be difficult , but I know you have the strength to get through this with God’s helping hands.
