Richard D. Stephens, 80, of Hunters Ridge, Meadville, passed away, Sunday, June 30, 2013 surrounded by his loving wife and family at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community. He was born May 21, 1933 in Meadville a son of Robert Stephens and Elsie Brewer Stephens. He married Dorothy Stiles who passed away in 1991 and is survived by his current wife, Evelyn Stephens. He was a graduate of Meadville Area High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving his country during the Korean Conflict until 1955. Richard was a certified Tool and Die maker and retired from Syst-a-matic Tool and Design in Meadville in 1997. He was a member of Park Congregational Church where he served as an usher and served on many different committees over the years. Richard enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. In addition to his loving wife, Evelyn, he is survived by a son, Matthew Stephens and his wife Samantha of Meadville, four step-children, Ronald First and his wife Sue of South Carolina, Randy First and his wife of Yolanda of Conneautville, Rhonda Burnette and her husband Eddie of Meadville, and Renee Hayes and her husband David of Saegertown; seven grandchildren, Shawn, Connie, Josh, Dan, Sommer, Nick, and Travis; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Stephens in 1964 as a result of an accident; a step-son, Richard First in 1972 as a result of an accident; his parents; and brothers and sisters. Family and friends are welcome to call on Wednesday, July 3rd from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral and committal service will follow at the funeral home at 2:00pm with Pastor Gary Brown of Park Congregational Church, officiating. Follow the committal service there will be a military flag presentation. Burial will take place in Denny Cemetery.
