Richard A. WoodRichard A. Wood, 90, of 1144 Market St., Meadville, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at Meadville Medical Center's transitional care unit.He was born on June 27, 1918 in Meadville, the son of the late Alonzo and Eva Carmen Wood. He married Joyce A. Welsh; she survives.He was a 1936 graduate of Meadville High School.He retired from the City of Meadville Water Department in 1983. He had previously been employed by the American Viscose Company; Devore Lumber Company; and the Cronin Building and Supply Company.He was a World War II United States Army veteran, having served from June 10, 1941 to June 29, 1945.He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 in Meadville and a lifetime member of Eagles Club No. 429, Meadville.He enjoyed camping, fishing and dancing.In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Edward L. McClay and his wife, Joanne, of Meadville; two daughters, Patricia A. Smith of Meadville and Janice Derby and her husband, Terry, of Meadville; four grandchildren, Brook Ann Barco, Jason Barco, Matthew D. McClay and Christopher M. Smith; a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Elizabeth McClay; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Wood; four sisters, Mabel Harvey, Ruth Harvey, Charlotte Granda and Agnes Cronin; and a son-in-law, Mark Charles Smith.Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Roofner-Collins Funeral Home, 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Solomon officiating.Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, with full military honors conducted by VFW Post 2006.The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
