Resided in: Union City, Pennsylvania

Rexford Seldon Seidler, 89, of Union City, passed away at home on August 14, 2025. Born on December 24, 1935, in Union City to William B. Seidler and Ruby I. Hellyer, Seidler. Rex lived a full life dedicated to family, community, and his many passions.

Rex married the love of his life, Shirley M. Tarbell, on May 31, 1955, and together they raised three daughters: Darlene McNulty (John), Starla Thompson (Steve), and Beth Seidler. Rex was a proud grandfather to Stephanie Teorsky (Dave), Shawn Thompson (Amy), Adam McNulty (Stephanie), and Scott Thompson (Ashlyn), and he cherished his several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A 1955 graduate of Union City High School, Rex had a varied career that included working at A & P Tea Company, Union City Hospital, and Corry Housing Authority. He was known for his own business, Seidler’s Paint and Wallpaper, which he operated from 1963 to 1978. His community involvement included being a member of the Lions Club, the Union City Fire Department, and the Alumni Association, as well as founding the Bears Club at Union City High School. He played a significant role in bringing holiday cheer to the community by overseeing the electricity for the Christmas Lights Project in the 1960s and was honored as Citizen of the Year in 1971.

Rex was not just a community man; he had a knack for woodworking, making gifts for his family and church, and was known for his ability to repair anything. In his later years, he enjoyed word searches and jigsaw puzzles, and he took great pride in building his own home and his first camper from the ground up.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Lou Blystone and her husband Bernard, his grandson Daniel McNulty, and his brother Olen Seidler and wife Sally.

Family and friends will be able to gather on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at New Ireland United Methodist Church, located at 4999 State Hwy 6, Union City, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Terry Brown.

Rex leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and community spirit that will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Rex was such a big part of my growing up years and still is. I have such great memories of Rex and Shirley. You can’t talk about him without mentioning Shirley. They brought me into their home as Beth and I became friends. To this day we are still friends with yearly visits to get caught up on life. The last words Rex said to me are, “You are my fourth daughter and I love you.” Rex, “You will be missed and I love you too!”

  2. Shirley and family
I am so very sorry for your loss. I had the privilege of being his nurse for a short period of time. He was such a kind and genuine man. He will be missed.

  3. Rex was a good man, and a great role model and friend. We only get so many people of his quality in our lives, and I was fortunate to have him in mine. My heartfelt condolences to Shirley and the Seidler family.

  4. Dar & Family, My deepest condolences to you and yours. May God comfort you and give you peace for your heart to heal. Loosing your Dad is so hard. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
