Michael Caputo, 87, of 14381 Limber Road, Meadville, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Scranton on Feb. 10, 1922, a son of Domenick Caputo and Angela (Capria) Caputo. He married Thelma Thomas on June 27, 1944; she preceded him in death on April 27, 2002.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps veterans, a veteran of the B24 Liberator 8th Air Force, and a member of the Duxford Air Museum in Duxford, England.
He enjoyed radio-control flying, hunting and fishing, and was a devoted husband, nurturing father of four children and grandfather of 10 grandchildren.
He was a member of the Red Cross board of directors, ARC Disaster Team 1959, Conneaut Lake Radio Control Flyers, Western Pennsylvania Repeter Council (one of the founders), the Amateur Ham Operator Society, and a licensed ham operator since 1960.
He was a Prudential Insurance agent, and a member of St. Agatha Church since 1945.
Survivors include a son, Michael (wife Linda) Caputo of Catlettsburg, Ky.; two daughters, Yvonne (Caputo) Kirk-Walters of Pennsburg and Constance Caputo of Milwaukee, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Gina (Caputo) Smith of Springfield, Mo., Joseph Caputo of Joplin, Mo., Cheryl (Caputo) Fogarty of Joplin, Darren Caputo of Sarasota, Fla., Rob Crivello of Oconomowac, Wis., Frank Crivello of Milwaukee, Katy Staacke of Glendale, Wis., Peter Walters of New York, N.Y., Kaitlyn Walters of Santa Fe, N.M., and Deborah Puette of North Hollywood, Calif.; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Domenick Caputo; his mother, Angela (Capria) Caputo; a son, Mark Caputo; his wife, Thelma (Thomas) Caputo; a brother, Joseph Caputo; and sisters, Constance, Rose and Josephine.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville, with a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Agatha Church, with Father Raymond Gramata of the church as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Agatha Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Red Cross.
