Matthew Furno, 83, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Meadville Medical Center. He was born on May 17, 1928 in Meadville, PA, son of Pompilio and Virginia Buzzarro Furno.
Matthew married Wilma Proudfoot on August 30, 1947, she survives.
He was employed by Avtex Fibers, Jim Taylor Motors, Bob Bryant Volkswagen, Value Home Center, and drove part time for Penncrest School District. He was a merchant Marine at the end of WWII, and a major in the Air force Reserves.
He was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church, Masonic Lodge 408, Knights Templer, Scottish Rite, and he enjoyed working on cars and machinery.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wilma, three daughters, Patricia D. Bill and her husband Larry of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Kathleen F. Welch and her husband Stephen of Saegertown, Colleen S. Furno of Meadville; one granddaughter Angela Lewis and her husband Kevin; two sisters, Ester A. Pruskowski of Meadville, Elizabeth Heist of New York and several nieces and newphews.
He is preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be held at a later date.
