Mary Magdaline Gyder McKinney Mary McKinney, 84, of, Franklin, passed away peacefully at 1:25 a.m., Friday, June 01, 2012, at The Caring Place, where she had resided for the past month. Mary was born March 10, 1928. She was the daughter of the late George and Mary Amelia Young Gyder. She was raised and lived her entire life in the Franklin/Rocky Grove area. She graduated from Franklin High School. On September 5, 1949, she married Donald Borland McKinney, who preceded her in death. Together, Mary and Don raised 7 children. Mary took her role as housewife and mother seriously. She loved to bake and cook, spending many hours in the kitchen. Mary so enjoyed the outdoors. Often, she could be seen walking in Franklin, recognized by many. Mary especially loved walking in the snow. A past time in her later years was knitting and crocheting. She delighted in the presentation of her handmade dish cloths as tokens of love to her family, friends and neighbors. Mary is survived by her daughter, Evelyn, of Franklin; and 5 sons, Michael (Susan) of Greenville, Rory of Franklin, George (Linda) of Rouseville, David (Rachel) of Grove City, and Daryl (Mary Kay) of Franklin; and a special person, who was just like a son to her, Phil Hefferman, of Ohio. Mary leaves behind 8 grandchildren, and they were the light of her life. Surviving are her grandsons, Bradley (Becky), Andrew, and Keith (Karrie); and her granddaughters, Jane Ann McKinney, Brenda (Ken) Hall, Stacey (John) Gardner, Christy and Julie McKinney. Additionally, she is survived by 2 great-grandchildren, Liam and Emily Hall. Mary is also survived by her brother, Charles Gyder; and her sisters, Jean Gyder, and Anna (John) Mandis, all of Colorado, and Elizabeth Fleming of Meadville. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Wesley; and her 3 great-grandchildren, Samantha and Sean Randall, and Christopher McKinney. Family and friends of Mary will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, June 4 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lonny Wolford, pastor of the Fox Street Church of God, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
