Mary Esther Whitman

Mary Esther Whitman, 82, of Franklin passed away on September 2, 2022 at UPMC Northwest. Born at home on January 1, 1940 in Scrubgrass Twp., PA, she was the daughter of the late Norman C. and Frances (Keith) Shaw. On December 21, 1957, she married the love of her life, Kenneth D. Whitman. He preceded her in death in 1996. Mary loved to cook and crochet. She adored babysitting especially if it was her family. You could often find her gardening in her flowerbeds. Left to cherish her memory are her children Paul D. Whitman and his wife, Diane, of Franklin, Robert L. Whitman and his wife Tina of Franklin, Karen Bickel and her husband, Tim, of Cooperstown, Betty Baker and her husband, Ken, of Cooperstown; her 9 grandchildren and her 9 great grandchildren. She is further survived by her brothers Barry Shaw of Franklin, Johnny Shaw of Franklin, Tommy Shaw of Polk; her sisters June Carter of Franklin, Dorothy Rae Frantz and her husband, Sam, of Franklin, and Agnes Johns and her special friend, Sam Uber of Franklin. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Sonny, Joseph and Roy Shaw and her sisters, Elsie Redmond, Alberta Shaw and Tammy Shaw. As per the family's request, there will be no services at this time. Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband at Bethel Cemetery.
