Maebelle Josephine Kerr, 73, of Polk Center, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, after a long illness. Born in Crawford County, PA on March 17, 1938, she was the daughter of Mae Walters Kerr and Amos A. Kerr. She moved to Polk Center when she was eleven years old. She presently resided in the Woodside building. Maebelle was employed in the VRS department until her ill health made her unable to continue employment. She enjoyed her work as a shredder. She also attended Protestant Church regularly until unable due to health. Maebelle enjoyed listening to music, watching tv, taking trips, Red Hat Society activities, and socializing with people. She had a mischievous sense of humor and an infectious smile and laugh. She enjoyed balloons and playing with them with staff. Maebelle was a good friend to her cottage family and was beloved by staff and friends who lived with her. She will be missed dearly. Maebelle had a friend and advocate, Mrs. Harriet Daye, who had been involved with Maebelle since 1995. She has a brother, Albert Kerr and half brother, Emmert Holmes. Along with her parents, half brother, Charles Holmes, and half sisters, Goldie Graham and Sally Holmes preceded her in death. There will be a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. at the Rynd Farm Cemetery, Tuesday, April 12, 2011. A memorial service will be held in the Woodside Commons on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 2:45 p.m. Gardiner Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin is handling the arrangements.
