Lyle Richard (Red) McKain Lyle Richard (Red) McKain, of 432 Gilfillan Street, Franklin, died unexpectedly at UPMC Northwest on Monday, November 22, 2010. Born September 14, 1931 in Oil City, he was the son of the late Henry P., Sr. and Mildred B. McKean McKain, of Saegerstown. Lyle was a 1950 graduate of Rocky Grove High School. He married the former Joyce M. Ghering of Franklin, on June 22, 1957. Lyle served in the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955 as an MP in the United States Army. While in the Army he earned the rank of Corporal and received the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, the ROK Presidential Unit Citation, and the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star. Lyle remained in the US Army Reserves until 1961, when he was honorably discharged. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 682, and served as Financial Secretary for several years, retiring after 30 years. Lyle loved cooking, gardening, hunting and garage sales. He was known for his carpentry skills and could repair anything. He loved spending time with his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson. He was a life-time member of the Rocky Grove Fire Department, where he was an invaluable member and was actively involved in many activities, especially Bingo. Mr. McKain is survived by Joyce, his beloved wife of 53 years; his daughter, Valerie L. McGuire and her husband, Thomas, of Franklin; and his son, Daniel L. McKain, of Zelienople. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Kelly A. Lucas and her husband, Herb; his grandson, Travis J. McGuire of Madison, Alabama; his great-grandson, Dylan M. Lucas; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by his five brothers, Charles William McKain, Henry P. McKain, Jr., Russell L. McKain, C. Wayne McKain, and Larry L. McKain. Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Friday, November 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services for Lyle will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, November 27 at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Janz, pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Garden with military honors being accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
