GUYS MILLS — Leo F. Barickman, 91, of Guys Mills, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown. He was born in Meadville on Sept. 24, 1919, a son of Augustus Barickman and Theresa Deissler. He married Annette F. Hope on June 16, 1941, and she preceded him in death on April 2, 1995. Leo was a graduate of St. Agatha High School, where he met his wife in 1938.
He was a long-time member of St. Hippolyte Church in Frenchtown, where he served on many committees. He was an avid card player. He operated a farm since the early 1940s. He was employed for 43 years at the American Viscose, Meadville, prior to retirement. He retired in 1984. Leo was a decorated veteran of World War II, where he was involved in fighting in the Philippines and later in Japan. He was awarded these medals and ribbons: Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal World War II. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors include four sons, James Barickman and his wife, Margaret, of Erie, Robert Barickman and his wife, Barbara Ann, of Blooming Valley, Lawrence L. Barickman and his wife, Carolyn, of Guys Mills, and Richard J. Barickman of Guys Mills; two daughters, JoAnne M. Boyle and her husband, Bruce P., of Clearwater, Fla., and Mary Lou Kessler and her husband, Robert, of Conneaut Lake; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Annette Hope Barickman; and two sisters, Agnes Barickman and Leona Barickman.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m., at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Hippolyte Church, with Father Dennis Veltri as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Hippolyte Cemetery, with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.
