Kenneth E. Irwin, Sr., of Cooperstown, passed away at 1:00 a.m. at UPMC NW in Seneca on Saturday, February 05, 2011. Born in Franklin on December 4, 1932, Ken was the son of the late Alton Erman and Hazel Marie Bean Irwin. He was married to the former Delores Deeter and she preceded him in death in 2003. Ken worked at Franklin Steel as a slitter mechanic; owned his own truck and drove for Lang's Trucking Company, hauling coal, gravel and bottled gas; and also drove elementary school students for Lepley Bus Service. Ken was a member of Cooperstown Evangelistic Tabernacle. He was also a member of Allegheny Jeepers Association and enjoyed off-road Jeep racing. Additionally, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, driving bus, and small engine repair. Ken is survived by his two sons, Kenneth E. Irwin, Jr., and his wife, Judy, of Franklin, and Jeffery A. Irwin and his wife, Babette, of New Gloucester, ME; his daughter, Dreama R. Cook and her husband, Richard, of Franklin; and his five grandchildren, Erik Irwin and his fiancee', Sarah Wygant, Christopher Irwin, and Hunter, Hagan and Holden Cook. He is also survived by his brother, Alvin E. Irwin and his wife, Joyce of Franklin; his two sisters, Laverne Lang of Franklin, and Geraldine Schreckengost of Atlanta, GA; his brother-in-law, Grover Boughner; and his special friends, Barbara Baker of Cooperstown and Sally Moses of Cochranton.. In addition to his parents and wife, Ken was preceded in death by his brother, Lou Irwin; his sisters, Mabel Daniels and Josephine Boughner and an infant sister. Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Tuesday, February 8, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services for Ken will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 9 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mark Fultz, pastor of Cooperstown Evangelistic Tabernacle, officiating. Interment will be in Cooperstown Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Avenue 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851.
