Karl D. Buttray, Sr., age 92, of Meadville, died December 15, 2024 at the Meadville Medical Center.

Born February 18, 1932 in Meadville, he was a son of Howard W. Buttray, Sr and Ceilia Marhoefer Buttray.

Mr. Buttray was a graduate of Meadville High School. He went on to work for Channellock for 37 years prior to retiring.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Meadville.

Karl was a long time supporter of Meadville High School Football and Basketball. He was also a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. Mr. Buttray was a member of the Meadville Field Archers since 1963 and was an active bowler.

Surviving is a daughter, Nancy Jo Mattocks, of Meadville; four step-children, Crystal Shafer, Jeffry Smith, Douglas Smith, all of Linesville, Michael Smith of Meadville; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Buttray was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Slayton Buttray; and his second wife, Mary Etta Clark Buttray; two sons, Karl Buttray, Sr. and William Buttray; a daughter, Karla Buttray; two brothers, Howard W. Buttray, Jr. and Robert G. Buttray.

Family and friends will be received from 12:00 NOON to 1:00 pm on Friday, December 20, 2024 at the Ryan M. Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville, the funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Nathan Alsdorf of Oasis Church, officiating. Interment will be made in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.

  3. I will always cherish the many Tuesday and Friday nights that Karl and I shared following Meadville High School basketball and football over the last 60 years or more . Rest In Peace dear friend !
