Josephine Emma Thomas, 85, of B-1 Yorktown House, Meadville, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Meadville Medical Center.
She was born May 6, 1923, in Bruceton Mills, W.Va., a daughter of Charles and Laura Glover Thomas. She married Fred J. Thomas Dec. 24, 1941; he preceded her in death Sept. 16, 1981.
She was a machine operator with Talon for 32 years.
She enjoyed volunteering at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community and was affiliated with Little Corners United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Gary Thomas and his companion, Carol Thomas, of Meadville; two grandchildren, Jodi Burlingame of Meadville, and Kathy Cummings and her husband, James, of McKean; four great-grandchildren, Nichole Burlingame and Zachary Burlingame, both of Meadville, and Lucas Cummings and Ashley Cummings, both of McKean; two sisters, Jean Everly of West Virginia and Helen Smith of Maryland; a brother, Lloyd Thomas of West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Arthur, Roy, Carl, Noah and Alvy; and four sisters, Edna, Mary, Glenna and Norma.
Calling hours will be Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lea Guiney officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, Crawford Unit, 464 Pine St., or Hospice of Crawford County, 448 Pine St., both of Meadville, Pa. 16335.
