Joseph Paul Ray Sr., 72, of 758 Belmar Road, Franklin, a retired boilermaker, died at 2:40 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008, in his home. He was born Oct. 2, 1935, in Pittsburgh, a son of Frank and Gladys Mason Ray. He was married April 1, 1982, to the former Elaine Fontana, and she survives. Mr. Ray worked as a boilermaker for 46 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Local 154 of the Boilermaker Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and casino gambling. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Joseph Ray Jr. and his wife, Marlene, of Franklin, Brian Ray and his wife, Sara, of Columbus, Ind., Jeffrey Ray and his wife, Debra, of Oakdale, Dennis Ray of New Port Richey, Fla., and Deanna Murphy and her husband, William, of Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren, Kelly Murphy, Evyn Ray and Krista Ray. Also surviving are three sisters, Ann Morey of Pittsburgh, Janet Nelson and her husband, Jim, of Florida and Lynda Kline of Cranberry Township; and two brothers, Frank Ray and his wife, Susie, of Florida and Bob Ray and his wife, Bonnie, of McKees Rocks. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Ray; a grandson, Bryan Ray; and an infant daughter, Crystal Lynn Ray. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald C. Bole, the VNA Hospice pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Old Sandy Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Kirkland Foundation.
