John R. Potts

John R. Potts, 92, of Meadville, passed away on December 1, 2013, at Meadville Medical Center. He was born on March 24, 1921 in Monongahela City, PA a coal mining town in Washington County, a son of John Robert Potts and Sarah Ann Reece Potts. He married June Ellen Locke on February 22, 1939, she preceded him in death on May 22, 1990. He was employed at American Viscose, later known as Axtex Fibers for 48 years. He retired in 1985 when the plant closed. John served his country with the US Army in Philippines during WWII. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2006, American Legion, lifetime member of Vernon Fire Department; he was one of the founders of the Norrisville Sportsmans Club. He hunted every year since he was a teenager and every single day for 15 years. John also coached baseball for 30 years. John was survived by his two daughters, Barbara Ellen Niedermeyer and her husband Joe of Springboro and Sally Ann Potts of Conneautvile; four sons, John R. Potts, Jr. and his wife Bev of Erie, James R. Potts and his wife Barb of Conneaut Lake, Jody L. Potts and his wife Cindy of Conneautville, and Charles E. Potts and his wife Lura of Meadville; twenty-one grandchildren, David, Deborah, Lisa, Jo Ann, Darren, Stacey, Amy, Jackie, Pam, Jason, Beth Ann, J.J., Brian, SuAnne, Jody, Kevin, Kim, Karen, Ryan, Tiffany, and Robert; thirty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; a brother Ray Potts and his wife Ellie of Meadville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda Rae; an infant son, Paul Potts; a sister, Virgina Nagoette; and a brother, Tom Potts. Family and friends are welcome to call on Wednesday, December 4th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 5th at 11:00AM at the funeral home with Pastor Richard Jones of Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will take place in Rundelltown Cemetery.
