John Cholak, 90, of Meadville, passed away, Monday, December 3, 2012 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home. He was born on August 18, 1922 in Timblin, Pennsylvania a son of Jacob Cholak and Maria Scupek Cholak. He married Dorothy Krasa on November 23, 1946, she survives.
John was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School and while in the navy he attended University of Houston located in Houston, Texas.
In 1942 John was employed as a meter reader for Penelec, until he volunteered for duty with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served with the Amphibious Forces in the Mediterranean. He shore duty included Mastagenem and Arzew in Algeria, North Africa and Salerno, Naples and Rome in Italy. When the war ended, John was honorably discharged with the rank EM1C.
After serving his country, John returned to Meadville and began home studying electrical drafting on the G.I. Bill. Upon completion of the course, John was hired by Talon where he worked in Engineering as a Electrical Draftsman until his retirement.
John was a member of Saint Agatha Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Meadville Elks Lodge # 219 and a member of the Talon Golf League.
He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, taking care of his fruit trees, working in the yard, hunting, fishing, working on engines, and golfing.
When his sons were growing up loved spending time with them teaching them how to hunt and fish.
In addition to his loving wife, Dorothy of 66 years he is survived by four sons, John G. Cholak of Anchorage, Alaska, Thomas A. Cholak and his wife Brenda of Meadville, Dennis R. Cholak and his wife Judy of Edinboro, David M. Cholak and his companion Christina of Conneautville; grandchildren, Andrea of Yuma, Arizona, Jacob and his wife Emma of Washington D.C., and Emily Jo of Edinboro; a sister, Ann Luketich and her husband Frank of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania; two nieces, Kathy Kier and her husband Larry of Buena Vista, Colorado and Betsy Everhart and her husband Karl of Denver, Colorado; a nephew, Jerry Cholak and his wife Cathy of Peoria, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Sam Cholak, two sisters, Mary and Kathryn; and a brother, Joe.
Family and friends are welcome to call on Friday, December 7th from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville. On Saturday, December 8th there will be an additional calling hour from 11:00am to 12:00pm with the funeral service to follow at 12:00pm at the funeral home with Father Matthew Kujawinski, pastor, of Saint Agatha Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Follow the funeral service VFW Post 2006 Color Guard will perform full military honors at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 1128 State Street, Erie, PA 16501.

What a lovely Gentle Man he was. He loved his ice cream. I loved his shy smile. Even tho I did not visit often he will be remembered and missed by me. God bless you all at this time.
