It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean L. Chess, age 64, who left us unexpectedly at her home in Meadville on August 28, 2026. Born on August 12, 1962, in Meadville, she was the daughter of William L. Noel, Sr. and Jean DeDomenic Noel.
A proud graduate of Meadville Area High School, class of 1980, Jean dedicated over 20 years to working as a custodian at Allegheny College. She also contributed her talents to CHAPS and UCIP, and was well-known for her self-employment cleaning homes throughout the Meadville area.
Jean was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and found joy in life’s simple pleasures – from crossword puzzles to warm-hearted family board games, scenic walks, and creating beautiful crocheted and knitted pieces. She loved baking delicious treats, fishing with her son, and visiting Deer Park in Jamestown. Above all, she cherished the moments spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Tiffany L. Chess of Meadville; two sons, Kenneth A. Chess of Saegertown and Tyler L. Chess (and his companion Jackie) of Franklin; her wonderful grandchildren, Jaylyn Chess, Jordyn Carpin, Hayley Chess, and Hunter Chess; and a great-grandchild on the way. She is also remembered fondly by her sister, Jennifer L. Schreffler (companion Matt) of Meadville; her brothers, Louis R. Noel and William L. Noel, Jr., both of Meadville; and the father of her children, Randy Chess of Meadville.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, a niece Elaina Schreffler, a nephew Brandon Schreffler, a cousin Matt Baker, and sister-in-law Debra Carlini-Noel.
We will gather for a memorial service to celebrate Jean’s life on Thursday, September 3rd, at Bethany United Methodist Church, located at 140 Wadsworth Ave., Meadville. The service will be officiated by Pastor Lea Guiney and Pastor Domingos Fernando as we remember the warmth and love Jean brought into our lives.
Memorial contributions may be made to her family in care of Ryan M. Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., situated at 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA 16335.

I have many fond memories of playing with Jeannie and Jennifer as kids. Those will always be remembered as special times . Cousins share a special bond . Love to all of our family and to those closest to Jean. God grant peace and comfort.
One memory that especially comes to mind is going to Jean and her twin sister Jennifer’s house after church. The church I attended was right next door to where they lived, so it was easy to stop by after services. Those simple visits are memories I treasure now—just being young, spending time together, talking, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company. At the time, we never realized how special those ordinary moments would become as the years passed.
Jean and Jennifer were such a special part of my childhood and teenage years. I knew Jennifer very well too, and although I eventually lost touch with both of them, I will always be grateful for the friendship and memories we shared during those important years of growing up.
My heart goes out to Jennifer, Jean’s family, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. I hope the memories of Jean, including all those wonderful moments from her younger years, bring comfort and peace during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Jean. You will always be a part of my memories of those special years.
