James Richard Noon Sr., 96, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at the home of his son, James R. Noon Jr., of 679 Williamson Road, Meadville, with whom he resided.
Born in Meadville, April 29, 1914, he was a son of John Noon and Josephine Detemple Noon. He married Rosetta Balog; she passed away in March 1988.
He was a World War II veteran. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, James attended Edinboro University as an art major. He worked for the railroad in Jamestown, and retired from Avtex in 1979 after 31 years of service.
“Pa Pa Noon” will be remembered as a loving grandfather and a friend to many. He enjoyed watching sports, playing checkers and loved dogs of all kinds.
He was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include his son, James Jr. and his wife, Arlene, of Meadville; a daughter, Joni M. Pusz and her husband, Ron, of Meadville; and five grandchildren, Cassie Noon, James E. Noon, Kailynn Noon, Ron Pusz Jr. and his wife, Kristina, and Dr. Erin Rose Pusz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Jack Noon; and a sister, Marie Brallier.
Calling hours are private.
The funeral will be private, with Father Mark O’Hern of St. Brigid Catholic Church officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
The family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 448 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335; St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335; or Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, Pa. 16335.
Arrangements are under the direction of Roofner-Collins Funeral Home Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.
