James “Jim” L. Sullivan, a loving husband, father, and proud grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on September 2, 1958, in Butler, PA, Jim lived his life with dedication and passion. He spent many happy years at Canadohta Lake, where he created a warm and welcoming home with his beloved wife, Diana, whom he married on July 9, 1988.

Jim was a proud graduate of Butler High School, Class of 1977, and he furthered his education with some college classes focused on supervisory training. His career spanned across various roles in the manufacturing industry, most notably as a superintendent at Cherry Hill Ethan Allen for 19 years until it closed in 2003. He also worked at his family owned business TriState Sales, Sparty Lumber, and ultimately retired from Parker Hanifin after 11 years as a machinist.

He was an attendee of Lincolnville Baptist Church, Jim enjoyed the outdoors and loved his hobbies, including hunting, bass fishing, and ice fishing. He was also an avid participant in pool leagues and was known for his incredible skills in fixing small engines and sewing machines.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife Diana of Union City; his three daughters: Jennifer (Scott) Gilson and Katie Ann Sullivan (fiancé Judd Brown), both of Union City, and Kelsey (Tyler) Dunton of Venango, PA. He was a proud father to his son, Daniel (Jessica) Sullivan of Slippery Rock, PA. Jim was also a cherished grandfather to his grandchildren: Alyssa, Briana, Taylor, Kenzie, Trenton, Wesley, Grayson, Leddy, Nora, Maddie Jo, and Murphy, and he enjoyed every moment he spent with them, including his great-granddaughter, Iris Rose Hetrick.

He is also survived by his sisters: Nancy (Rick) Travaglio of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Maureen (Victor) Toy of Union City, and his brother Thomas (Josette) Sullivan of Butler, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and D. Phyllis Sullivan; his brother, John Patrick Sullivan; his brother-in-law, Craig Schweitzer; and his daughter-in-law, Amy Prence Sullivan.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My mother Arline Clark will be happy to welcome Jim to the other side. She had so much respect for him, as did my whole family. From broken screen doors to boat motor repairs “Jimmy Sullivan can fix anything” she used to say and was always there in a heartbeat. When I was a kid, he was like Superman. He will be missed.

  2. I grew up in Saxonburg, PA. My mom, Dodie, and I would buy our furniture at Jim and Phyllis’ furniture store in Butler. Both of our families also had connections to Canadohta Lake, PA. This is where my friendships grew with each of the Sullivans and their beautiful families. Our hearts go out to Diana and all of Jim’s family. Jim is one of those-kind-of-guys who will be greatly missed by all. Our family sends love and prayers.

  3. The Sullivan family were some of the first people I got to know when my parents bought our place at the lake in 77. At the time I remember Jim had a black and silver pickup truck that looked so fast and I wanted that truck lol. What 13 year old gear head wouldn’t ? I got to know Jim and Tommy and Maureen and I’m so glad I did. Jim…..the lake won’t be the same without you. And P.S…….I still have that Wizard Super 10 you got running for my Dad back in the early 80s. I’d bet with a little fresh gas……it would start. Rest easy my friend and my condolences to the Sullivan family. Very sad news…..
