James Alfred Hickey, 84, of Cooperstown passed away at home on July 9, 2026 with his family at his side.
Born on March 28, 1942 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Thomas Joseph and Jean Evelyn (Bischoff) Hickey.
James proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
For many years, he worked at Joy Manufacturing but ended up working as a corrections officer for the county of Venango.
On June 8, 1965, he married the love of his life and his soulmate, Barbara J. Watt. Their love for each other was unmatched. She survives.
James enjoyed fishing and hunting. As a “jack of all trades” he had a talent for woodworking and was a really good mechanic. Most of all, his family was his world.
Left to cherish his memory along with his wife of 61 years are his children, James Hickey and his wife, Cynthia, of Jamestown, PA, Sean Hickey and his wife, Denise, of Conneautville, Daniel Hickey and his wife, Connie, of Cooperstown, Anna Songer and her husband, Eric, of Cooperstown, and Brenda Arnett and her husband, Kevin, of Fairborn, OH; his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Edward Hickey and his siblings.
No public services will be observed at this time and arrangements are in the care of Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin.
James will be laid to rest in Cooperstown Cemetery.
