Hobart "Bert" Cornmesser Hobart "Bert" Cornmesser, 80, of Gilfillan Street, Franklin (and The Caring Place), passed away at 3:07 a.m. on Saturday, September 03, 2011 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born August 24, 1931 in Seneca, Bert was the son of the late Hobart M and Wilda McKee Cornmesser. He was married to the former Betty Highgate on September 26, 1956, and she survives. He was a Korean War Era Veteran having served with the US Army from 1952 until 1954. While in the Army, Bert was the recipient of a Good Conduct Medal and a National Defense Medal. Bert had been employed at Polk Center for more than 30 years as an LPN. He also had sold Rawleigh Products for several years. Bert was a 1949 graduate of Emlenton High School. He was a member of the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church and the Oil City Shin-Diggers Square Dancers. He also was a former member of the Barbertones. Bert enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, and camping with the Venango County Caravan. In addition to his wife, Bert is survived by his sisters-in-law, Myrna Cornmesser of Franklin and Isabel Cornmesser of Oil City; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his many special friends at The Caring Place. Burt was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Guy Cornmesser,and his twin brother, James Cornmesser; and his sisters, Nellie Shreffler, Mary Jane Kessler, and Gladys Hall. Family and friends of Bert will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, September 8, at 11 a.m. with Linda Deeter, pastor of The Caring Place, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Franklin Cemetery. The family suggests that Memorial Contributions be made to the charity of one's choice.
