Herbert R. Bigley

June 16, 1952 ~ February 24, 2025

Born in: Oil City, Pennsylvania
Resided in: Franklin, Pennsylvania

Herbert R. Bigley, 72, of Franklin passed away on February 24, 2025 at UPMC Northwest, Seneca after an extended illness.

Born on June 16, 1952 in Oil City, he was the son of the late Ralph and Lina (Hill) Bigley.

For many years, Herb was an insurance salesman for different companies and enjoyed meeting new people. After retiring from the insurance field, he started working for Oil Region Recovery and was proud of his job. He stated that a void was filled in his life since he was able to spread God’s love and message to those he helped.

Herb was a faithful member for over 20 years at the Franklin Church of the Nazarene. His biggest accomplishment was giving his life to the Lord, starting his journey on witnessing, and spreading the Word of the Lord.

Coaching youth sports was his passion. He coached little league for 15+ years, Sandycreek Elementary Basketball for 20 years, ran the men’s softball league for 40 years, and ran the youth softball league. At the YMCA, he was the coach for Biddy Ball, ran flag football and t-ball for many years.

His family was very important to him and his niece and nephews considered him their second father.

Left to cherish his memory are his siblings Fred Bigley, Jim Bigley, Becky Watson and her husband, Jim, and Evey Bigley all of Franklin and Mark Bigley and his wife, Nita, of Baltimore, MD; his niece Stacy Bigley of Ohio; his nephews Derek Watson of Franklin, Jacob Watson and his wife, Brittney, of Polk, and Jared Hancher of Franklin; and his great-nieces and nephews Bryson, Brystol, Tyler, Richie, Tanner, Misty Jo, Jeremy, and Jimmie. He will be missed by his friends and those he coached, not only in sports but also in life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Dan and Gilbert Bigley and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Bigley.

Guests will be received at the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Friday, February 28th from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services for Herb will be held at the Franklin Church of the Nazarene, 393 Pone Lane, Franklin on Saturday, March 1st at 11:00 am with Pastor David Smith, pastor of the church, officiating.

  5. Over 50 years of great memories, from our trip to Miami for Super Bowl XIII to many hours on the baseball and softball fields throughout the area. It may take a village, but we will continue to honor and remember you with the continuation of the VENCO Men’s Modified Softball League.
    RIP my friend.

  6. Dear Becky and Fred, I’m sorry to hear that you have lost your brother Herb. I have seen how much you both cared for and loved him. Sending hugs to both of you until I can see you both again when I’m back from vacation. Lots of ❤️. Nadena

  7. Not even sure where to start – The number of peoples lives he touched is immeasurable. I’m certainly not alone is saying Herb’s influence literally spanned generations. From coaching me in American Legion baseball back in 1980/81, to coaching both of my sons in several sports many years later. Then having the opportunity to coach youth baseball alongside Herb was a blessing. His fairness and toughness were life lessons in real time. A true players coach, i can vividly remember some of the life lessons Herb taught me at a young age and watched as he had the same influence on my sons in a variety of sports. He will be forever missed, there won’t be another like him. RIP coach!!

  8. Family and Friends of Herbert R. Bigley,

May God comfort and support you in the time of your loss. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. Herb’s legacy will live forever in the hearts of those lives he influenced, challenged and directed.

“Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14: 1 -3

May God Bless and Keep You,

    Lou, Susan, Bethany Slautterback

  9. I only connected with Herb in the last few years, through his appreciation of music. The world’s sweetest guy, intensely interested in other people and an immediate good friend. You’ll be missed, Herb. Rest in peace.

  10. Oh how you will be missed our friend. You greeted everyone with a smile and your gentle way. We know your with God just as he was with you on earth. Until we meet again we will miss you but keep our memories alive in our hearts. R.I. P HERB…

  11. fred and becky and families.
my deepest sympathy and prayers for you and your families

  12. I met Herb when we were both agents for American General Insurance in Franklin. He always had a smile on his face and always had a positive attitude about everything. { being in the insurance business can be a very negative thing}. I am forever grateful for having known Herb, and will remember him for the rest of my life. I retired in 2010, so I hadn’t seen Herb all those years , but one thing he did was attend my son’s funeral in 2006. He didn’t have to, but again that was Herb. God bless you , and I am sure you are in heaven now as you were so very kind and caring. Sorry I can’t attend his funeral as I’m a bit under the weather. Suffice it to say, the day will be a little less bright without Herb here to brighten it. God bless!!!!

  13. Truly a sad day for Franklin. Played against his teams for many years. I think one of the best things I can say about Herb is “that he cared”

  14. So sorry for your loss prayers for family to get through this time! Softball will not be the same but will go on with your legacy…Herb was a great guy, he was always there to go to with any little thing. Bern & Herb spent a lot of years together at the ball field & he always had a smile for everyone. Get all the players together up there & play a game with us in mind…
    RIP my friend

  15. Great man, great coach and a great friend. Herb touched so many lives and will be missed by us and all who knew him. Rip Herb❤️🙏🏻❤️
