Helen P. Smith, 93, of Thurston Road, Meadville, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Hamot Medical Center, Erie. Born in Meadville on Sept. 6, 1916, she was the daughter of R. Benard and Agnes (Brunot) McFetridge. She was a lifetime member of St. Brigid's Roman Catholic Church and a eucharistic minister and member of the Altar Rosary Society at the church. She was a lifelong member of Catholic Daughters of America and treasurer of Daughters of the American Revolution. She retired after 20 years from the Pennsylvania Department of Health as a clerk stenographer II. She was a member of the 55-Plus Club. Survivors include a son, William James Smith and his wife, Patricia, of Edinboro; a daughter, Elaine Ann Uhlman and her husband, George, of Meadville; a son, Donald Bernard Smith and his wife, Carol, of Meadville; two sisters, Bernice Eberhardt of Meadville and Clare Hall of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Clifford Smith; and a brother, Robert McFetridge. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with a vigil prayer service at 8:30 p.m., at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Brigid Church, with Father Mark O'Hern as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Brigid's Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
