Helen Joyce Nickas

January 5, 1939 ~ October 13, 2026

Born in: Curtisville, Pennsylvania
Resided in: Union City, Pennsylvania

Helen Joyce Nickas, lovingly known as Joyce to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Joyce was born on January 5, 1949, in Curtisville, Pennsylvania, to Daniel Livenspire and Wilma Maryott Livenspire. She lived a life filled with love, faith, strength, and devotion to the people and animals who held a special place in her heart.

Joyce has now been reunited with the love of her life, James A. Nickas, whom she married on February 27, 1962. Together, they built a life and family filled with cherished memories and lasting love. Though their time together on earth has ended, the bond they shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved them.

Joyce leaves behind her two beloved children, Linda Nickas, and her partner William Healy, and James Nickas, both of Old Bridge, New Jersey, who will forever carry her love and memories with them. She is also survived by her dear sister, Danice Trindell, and was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Betty Nickas.

After graduating from New Brunswick High School, Joyce devoted herself to being a homemaker and mother, embracing the joys and responsibilities of caring for her family. Following her move to Union City, Pennsylvania, she worked for many years at the local Rite Aid, where she became part of the community she called home.

Joyce’s faith was an important part of her life. As a devoted servant of our Lord and Savior, she attended Union City Baptist Church, drawing strength and comfort from her faith. She found happiness in life’s simple blessings, especially tending to her garden and opening her heart and home to cats in need through her work with Because You Care, Inc.

Those who knew Joyce will remember her as a woman with a heart of gold, a spirited personality, and a strength that carried her through life’s many seasons. She loved deeply, cared fiercely, and left a lasting impression on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.

Joyce’s greatest legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Heather DeLucca and her husband Christopher, Micheal Nickas and his wife Caitlin, Lyndsey Reho, and Matthew Nickas, and her cherished great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Anthony, Jonathan, Kaylee, Zoey, Maxwell, Grayson, Violet, and Everett. Each of them was a precious part of her life, and the love she had for them will continue to shine through the memories they hold dear.

She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews, including her beloved goddaughter, Beth Ann Connelly; her treasured best friend, Jean Geer; and many other family members and friends whose lives were touched by her love and friendship.

Joyce was especially loved by her chosen family at Manly Heights, whose companionship brought so much meaning to her life. The family is deeply grateful to her former caregivers, Linda VanEpps and Shana Way, for the loving care they showed Joyce, and extends a special heartfelt thank-you to Hope Edwards, whose gentle presence, comfort, and compassion helped guide Joyce peacefully through her final moments. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Mickey, who was a precious companion and a special part of her home.

Her family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Joyce’s life at Warren-Glenn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 62 S. Main Street, Union City, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

May Joyce find eternal peace in the loving arms of her Savior, reunited with her beloved James, and may those she leaves behind find comfort in knowing that a love as deep and beautiful as hers never truly fades. It lives on forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to call her family and friend.

Guestbook

  1. Joyce was a very special person. She and my mom had a close bond and now they are together again. God bless Linda and Jim and the rest of the family. Our prayers go with you. Love you lots.

  2. She will be missed by so many, such a happy loving caring sweetheart. Working with her as I was one of her Home Healthcare Aids was one of the best rewarding jobs with tons of memories I could have ever asked for. Prayers to the family during this time.
