MEADVILLE " Helen E. Krider, 93, of 15035 Middle Road, Meadville, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Meadville Medical Center. For the last few months she had resided at Grace Health Center of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
She was born on Feb. 1, 1917, in Meadville, a daughter of Edward Smith and Frances Kramer. On Oct. 23, 1946, she was married to Edward F. Krider.
She was a member of the former Watson Run United Church of Christ.
She was a dairy farm wife and a homemaker who raised her own chickens and was an accomplished cook, baker, canner, gardener and quilter. She enjoyed doing plastic canvas, embroidery and caning chairs.
She was a 65-year member of Vernon Grange and a member of the Watson Run Women’s Club.
Helen loved her family and loved to spend time with them.
She is survived by daughter Dorothy Porter of Meadville; son Earl Krider and his wife, Bonita, of Meadville; granddaughters Kelly Selvam of Monroeville, Janell Krider of Erie and Kendra Krider of Meadville; great-granddaughters Anjali and Aaralyn Selvam of Monroeville; sister Leona Krider of Meadville; brother Wayne F. Smith of Meadville; sisters-in-law Edith Smith of Carlton and Beryl Williams of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Krider, who passed away on Aug. 22, 1999; son-in-law Richard C. Porter; brothers Harold Smith, Oscar Smith and Arthur Smith; and sister Freda Smith.
Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home, 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Dan McEldowney of Watson Run Presbyterian Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Watson Run Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
Interment will be in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
