Hazel I. Stevenson Hazel Stevenson, 78, of 507 Hoffman Avenue, Oil City, passed away at her residence on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 10 a.m. , following a courageous battle with cancer. Born, October 15, 1931, in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Emma Shields Griffin. Mrs. Stevenson was married in 1951 in Fairbanks, Alaska to LeRoy C. Stevenson, who preceded her in death in 1987. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved the time she spent with her dog, "Scruffy". Hazel was a devoted Christian and she belonged to the Mt. Carmel Tabernacle in Dempseytown. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Stevenson was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas W. Griffin; her 2 sisters, Claribel Huff and Pearl Courson; and her grandson, Michael Stevenson. She is survived by her 3 sons, Allen L. Stevenson of Buffalo, New York; LeRoy C. Stevenson and his wife, Hilda, of Oil City; and Mark W. Stevenson and his wife, Jodi, of Seattle, Washington; and her 2 daughters, Patty J. Stevenson of Atlanta, Georgia; and Cynthia Linnon and her husband, Scott, of Franklin. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Additionally she is survived by her brother, John Griffin and his wife, Helen, of Seneca; and her sister, Alice Ferry and her husband, Charles, of Cooperstown; and a very special niece, Lois Sharrar, who spent many hours by her side. Friends may call at the Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services for Mrs. Stevenson will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, October 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. , with the Rev. Susan Evans, Venango VNA Hospice Chaplain, presiding. Interment will follow in Dempseytown Lutheran Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Venango County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1045, Oil City, PA 16301.
