Hazel I. Karns, 92, of Franklin passed away on May 11, 2025 at Sugar Creek Care Center with her family at her side.
Born in Franklin, PA on February 27, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Hazel V. (Abel) Barnicle and the last surviving member of her family.
She retired as an assistant manager from First National Bank after 25 + years of service.
On February 6, 1953, she married the love of her life, Charles W. Karns. He preceded her in death on January 24, 2023.
Hazel was the type of person who was always on the go. She loved to go fishing and tending to her prized floral beds at the homestead. She was very creative in everything she did. Most of all, family was her world.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Deborah S. Lyle and her husband, Dave, of Centerville; her grandchildren, Michael Lyle and his wife, Megan, of West Chester, PA and Christine Lyle of Buffalo, NY; her sisters-in-law Patricia Karns, Mary Ellen Karns and Florence Barnicle; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Barry Karns in 2018 and her siblings Louise Dalmaso, James Barnicle, Lucille Culbertson, Helen Graham, Linda Campbell, and Thomas Barnicle.
No public services will be observed and arrangements are in the care of the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA.
Since Hazel was a dog lover, it’s requested that memorial contributions be made in Hazel’s memory to either to Precious Paws Animal Rescue, PO Box 784, Franklin, PA 16323 or Venango County Humane Society, 286 South Main Street, Seneca, PA 16346.

So saddened to read of Hazels passing. Always knew her as Sunny which was very fitting! I spend a lot of time in the 3rd street hollow where she lived, as her sister, Lynda, & I were good friends. God surely blessed her with creativity! I extend to family my sincere deepest sympathy. Cherish the memories!
