Harvey McCarty, 77, of Elm Street, Rocky Grove, passed away at his residence at 3:29 a.m., Sunday, April 03, 2011. Born March 16, 1934, in Middleway, WV, Harvey was the son of the late Herman A. and Zetta L. Robinson, McCarty. He was married to the former Gertrude L. Switzer Kellner on March 21, 1975, and she survives. Harvey was a Peacetime Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked at Union Hall Local #268 in Sharon as a construction laborer until his retirement in 1995. Harvey was well-known for his woodworking hobbies. In addition to his wife, Harvey is survived by his six step-children, Abraham L. Kellner of Napoleon, Ohio, Michael A. Kellner and his wife, Dawn, of New Lebanon, John L. Kellner of Polk, Donald O. Kellner and his wife, Betsy, of Huntsville, Alabama, Mary Irene Hoover of Oil City, and Lisa R. Ducca and her husband, Nicholas, of Highland, California. He is also survived by his brothers, Terry McCarty and his wife, Jane, of Franklin, and Dwight McCarty of Reno; and his sisters, Maureen Stover and her husband, Robert and Melvina Chatley and her husband, Earl, all of Franklin. Harvey is additionally survived by his 12 step-grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his brothers, Delmar McCarty, Llewellyn McCarty, George McCarty, Melvin McCarty and Rodger McCarty; and his sisters, Daryl Stroup and Cyrnea Manning; and his step-son, Richard B. Kellner. Friends and family of Harvey will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Tuesday, April 5 from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 6 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Joseph P. Martin, Jr., pastor of Cooperstown United Methodist Church, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Private interment will be held at Nicklin Cemetery.
