Gloria A Boeckel

Gloria Ann Boeckel, 74, of 7 Paul Revere Road, Oil City, died at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at UPMC Northwest. Born Oct. 13, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa, she was the daughter of Eunice May Goff Childers of Des Moines. Mrs. Boeckel attended school in Des Moines and was a graduate of East High School. After graduation, she completed courses in creative writing, banking and various computer studies. Mrs. Boeckel was employed as an executive secretary for most of her working career. In Des Moines, she worked in the personnel department of Employers Mutual Casualty Company and was also employed by Iowa-Des Moines National Bank as secretary to the executive vice president. She worked for Colorado Fuel and Iron Company in Denver, Colo. While living in Erie, she was employed by General Electric Company in the Aerospace Division. After moving to the Oil City area, she was employed by Franklin Steel Company as secretary to the president from 1975 until its closing in 1994. She worked at Franklin Industries when it opened in 1996 until her retirement in 2000. Mrs. Boeckel enjoyed spending time with her two sons and her sister. She also enjoyed the companionship of her two dogs, Sam and Jake, who died in 2007. She was an avid reader and enjoyed needlework as well as creative writing. She was a member of the Lady Oilers Red Hat group in Oil City and participated in its many social functions. She was of the Protestant faith. Surviving are two sons, Robert O'Hara and John O'Hara, both of Oil City; a sister, Margaret Godden; and a nephew, Steven Godden, both of Oil City. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Boeckel was preceded in death by her first husband, Jimmie O'Hara. She was married in 1974, in Erie, to John Robert Boeckel, who died April 15, 1980. At her request, she is being cremated and there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Gardinier Funeral Home in Franklin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Venango County Humane Society, 2724 Deep Hollow Road, Franklin, 16323 or to the Tionesta Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Route 36 South, Tionesta, 16353.
