Gertrude A. Burkhardt Gertrude A. Burkhardt, 95, of 1217 Polk Cut Off, Polk, passed away at 8:55 a.m. at Sugar Creek Station, on Monday, February 07, 2011. Born April 28, 1915, in Bradford, Gertrude was the daughter of the late John and Priscilla Leasure Clancy. She was married August 17, 1945 to Walter Burkhardt and he preceded her in death in 1999. Gertrude was a stay-at-home mom , and was a PTA room mother for all her children. In the 60's, she helped operate the B & B Taxi that she, her husband, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, owned. At one time she also had worked for Zippo Manufacturing Company in Bradford. She attended Galloway United Methodist Church. In the '70's she joined Sandycreek V.F.D. Ladies Auxiliary and was known for her home-made pies they sold at Bingo and for dinners. Gertrude loved to sew. She made most of her family's clothes for many years. She loved to make cookies for Christmas and her "Boys" their candy canes. Gertrude is survived by her son, Ronald Burkhardt and his wife, Patricia, of Polk; her daughter, Cheryl Knox and her husband, Don, of Franklin; her five grandchildren, Debra Mook and her husband, Robert, of Polk, Ronda Schengber and her husband, James, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Thomas Burkhardt and his wife, Connie, of Polk, Gary Knox and his wife, Melissa, of Franklin, and Darren Knox and his wife, Donna, of Andreas, PA; her eleven great-grandchildren, Brian Mook of Polk, Andrew and Allison Schengber of Cincinnati, OH, Lauren Burkhardt of Polk, Brandon and Tyler Burkhardt of Oil City, Karley Emeigh of Polk, Lindsay Curran and Matthew Knox of Franklin, and Karlee and Cole Knox of Andreas, PA. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Gaul and her husband, Al, of Bradford; her brother-in-law, Richard Milhollen, of Bradford; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by her sons, Billy Burkhardt and Richard Burkhardt; and her sister, Shirley Milhollen. Family and friends of Gertrude will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Wednesday, February 9, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services for Gertrude will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, February 10 at 11 a.m., with Dr. John Seth, pastor of The Galloway United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Sandycreek Fire Department, 624 Congress Hill Road, Franklin PA 16323.
