George E. McCool

March 23, 1929 ~ September 16, 2024

Born in: Pleasantville, Pennsylvania

George E. McCool, 95, of Erie passed away in his home on September 16, 2024 with his family at his side.

Born on March 23, 1929 in Pleasantville, PA, he was the son of the late Glenn and Ella (Boyles) McCool.

George retired from Erie Malleable Iron Company after 26 years as a machinist.

On April 6, 1946, he married the former Donna Sharp. She preceded him in death on July 18, 1993. He later met the former Judy Leubke and they were married on November 12, 2012. She survives.

For many years, he was a foster parent with Children Services of Erie. Not only did he enjoy providing children with a father figure, he also enjoyed being a handyman. He loved to “tinker” with things. He would sometimes have leftover parts and an unusable item.

Left to cherish his memory along with his wife, Judy is his daughter, Kathie Groney and her husband, Paul, of Harborcreek; his 5 grandchildren; and his 8 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother Clarence McCool of Cooperstown and his sister Violet Shingledecker of Franklin.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by his son, George E. McCool, Jr., his infant daughter Heidi S. McCool, and his siblings Ivan, Evan, and Bud McCool, Elsie Moskey, Eva Montgomery, Mary Sweitzer, and Betty Noel.

Family and friends are invited to the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA on Friday from 1pm to 3pm. Funeral services for George will be held at the funeral home the same day immediately following the visitation at 3pm with Reverend Daniel J. Laird officiating.

George will be laid to rest in Franklin Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in George’s name to your favorite animal shelter or UPMC Hospice of Erie, 1700 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16501.
