MEADVILLE " George A. Bickel of Dawn Court, Meadville, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born May 26, 1925, in Emlenton, Rockland Township, a son of George A. and Mary T. Coulter Bickel. He was married July 8, 1945, to Barbara Spence, who predeceased him June 30, 2003. He subsequently married Evelyn Nosker on April 30, 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his daughters, Gail (John) Bulanda of New Lenox, Ill., Bonnie (Clare) Fater of Auburn, Ind., and Patti (Jay) Paxton of The Villages, Fla.; his stepson, Wayne (Marie) Nosker, and his stepdaughter, Linda (John) Litzinger, of Meadville; grandchildren, Michelle (Andy) Batchelder, Beth Fater, David (Erin) Bulanda, Sara Paxton, Mike (Sadie) Litzinger and Mark (Charlotte) Litzinger; and great-grandchildren, Jayson Hill and Isaiah Clemons, Joseph, Theresa and Matthew Bulanda and Clayton and Cerese Litzinger; his sister, Helen Brown of Wesleyville; sister-in-law Maxine (Peter) DeGerlando; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Wayne Bickel.
He graduated from Pleasantville High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He retired after 30 years as plant manager for Ford Motor Co. He had lived in Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Illinois Neighbor Lodge 1169 for 49 years. He was a life member of the Lancaster, N.Y., 1478 Elks and an endowment member of the National Rifle Association.
Arrangements are by Roofner-Collins Funeral Home, 544 Chestnut St., Meadville. Viewing hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Dave Brumagin at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. A military service will follow with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.
Donations can be made to Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, PO Box 998, Hot Springs, S.D. 57747. George enjoyed a trip to the sanctuary last Fall.
