Fredrick C. Shoup, 85, of Franklin, went to be with his Lord and Savior at UPMC ­Northwest, on Saturday, July 29, 2023. He was born on November 24, 1937 in Franklin, the youngest son of the late Edward Charles Shoup and Margaret Bertha Roach Shoup Fratcher. He attended Franklin Area schools, and served in the Pennsylvania National Guard, Company B, 112th Infantry, as a Specialist 3rd Class. He married Carol Willyoung on February 8, 1965, and she survives. In 1999, he folded his last drop cloth and cleaned his last paint brush, retiring after a 40 year career as a professional painter having painted locally and across the country. He was a proud member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Painters during his career, and served as president of the Oil City and Grove City locals. Following retirement, his attention turned to wood working when he joined the Venango County Toymakers where his missed very few Tuesday mornings as long as his health permitted. He was an active member of the Congress Hill Church of God, serving in various capacities over the years including deacon and trustee (a position he held for over 25years), Sunday school secretary and administrative board chairman. For years, he was potato masher extraordinaire at the fund raising dinners, organized the annual Easter sunrise breakfast, and operated the sound system. He was a devoted and very proud father of his children: Kimberlee (Richard) Forn of of Oil City; Jeannetta Shoup of Pittsburgh; Tammy (Jeff) Baker of Lawndale, NC; Caryn (Udo) Fuchs of New Castle, and Kevin (Penny) Shoup of Polk. He was Papa to six grandsons, three granddaughters, nine great-grandsons, and eleven great-­granddaughters. He is survived by a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" King of Franklin. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Larry Willyoung whom he considered a second son. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers William P. Shoup and Robert E. Shoup, Sr., and a stepson Stanley R. Rodgers. As per his wishes, there will be no public viewing and services will be private, with Pastor Stephen Flugga, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Morrison Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Memorials, if desired, can be made to the Congress Hill Church of God Building Fund, 406 Congress Hill Road, Franklin, PA 16323.
