Frank Rekas SAEGERTOWN - Frank Rekas, 87, of Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, died there Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009.He was born in Meadville, Dec. 26, 1921, a son of John and Katherine Rekas. He married Sophia Glaz; she preceded him in death in October 2006.He was a 1940 graduate of Meadville High School. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Corps from Jan. 8, 1942, to Jan. 3, 1946. He served with the 568th Engineering Squadron, 358th Service Group, Mariana Island, then was stationed at Tinian Island at the end of World War II. He retired in December 1983 as a toolmaker with Talon.He attended St. Brigid Church, Meadville.Survivors include two sons, John Rekas and his wife, Beth, of Meadville, and David Rekas and his wife, Jill, of Mesa, Ariz.; a grandchild; and nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and three brothers, Louis Rekas, Joseph Rekas and Henry Rekas.Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville, with a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, with Father Mark O'Hern as celebrant.Burial with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will be in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Township.
