Evelyn Ida Hartle

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Evelyn Ida Hartle on August 22, 2026.

Evelyn was the last surviving member of her family. She was born June 21, 1928, to Ralph and Alda Grace McKinley Wood, the youngest of 8 children.

She was pre-deceased by brothers Elmer Burton, Dalton, George, Clyde, Evan, Ellis and Allen Wood, as well as a step-brother Thomas Miller, and her parents. Evelyn lost her mother at a very young age, and was raised by her loving step-mother, LeVisa Miller Wood, whom she credited with turning her from a tomboy to a young lady.

Evelyn began her employment at the former Polk State Center, where she learned the secretarial skills that she held throughout her career. She worked for many years at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company in Franklin, rising to the level of Executive Secretary. She ended her career with a local law office.

Evelyn married Joseph R. Hartle, Sr. in 1949, and they enjoyed 57 years together before Joe’s passing in 2007. Together they raised 5 children: Kay and husband Thomas Mansfield of Dysart, PA; Sandy and husband Rick of Barkeyville PA; Valerie and husband James King of Meadville; Stephen Hartle of Franklin; and Joseph Hartle Jr., also of Franklin. She had 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She loved them, even when she couldn’t remember their names! She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Odle of Franklin.

Evelyn was very active when she was younger, enjoying going deer hunting and bowling with her friends at the Buffalo Street Lanes as she was able.

She loved to play cards with her family and tending to her flowers and greatly enjoyed her favorite cat, Ralphie.

Guest are invited to Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the start of the funeral services at 4:00 pm.

Evelyn will be laid to rest next to her husband in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Franklin.
